Who we are

Founder and Director Maeve Staunton Henderson’s ethos and design education is outlined below.

Director

Our founder and director Maeve Staunton Henderson is qualified from the prominent architecture school on Bedford Square in London, the Architectural Association. Previous alumni include Sir. Richard Rogers, Sir. Norman Foster, Dame Zaha Hadid.

Maeve completed her Part 3 exams there, focusing on customer service and cost effectiveness.

Earlier qualifications are from DIT Bolton St. Dublin, Ireland. Maeve is an RIBA member and the practice is in the process of becoming both RIAI and RIBA chartered practices.

London experience

Maeve spent 2010-2018 working at AJ 100 practices in London, gaining experience in high-end commercial and residential developments for international clients. Strip-out, fit-out, and installation of bespoke reception interiors for offices in Devonshire Square in The City of London became a speciality. Preserving existing fabric of historic properties such as the 18th C. East India Trading Company warehouses, above, became a theme in Maeve’s work at John Robertson Architects.

Working for Sir. Rogers

Working at RSH-P made a deep impression upon Maeve. The design of a subterranean gym at a £20m residential development at Changfeng in China was her responsibility. The attention to detail, the acceptance of nothing less than excellence, the determination to remain true to concept, while being agile and navigating a client’s needs with care and attention have all been carried forward to the ethos of this new company.

Working at the OPW

Early in career, Maeve was accepted onto the prestigious RIAI OPW graduate scheme. Learning from the master of interior timber work, Ciarán O’Connor, the theme of excellence was again brought to the fore.

The vastly varied project work the OPW carries out has stood to Maeve. She has worked on Police Stations, State Farms, National Galleries, State Laboratories, and many historic properties under the mentorship of highly experienced Peter Rogers.

Working at De Blacam and Meagher

Working closely with Shane DeBlacam and John Meagher at DEBM proved formative in Maeve’s architectural design education.

The use of purely natural materials, the careful consideration of form, and the celebration of human life through design remain very predominant elements in the Staunton Henderson style.

Lecturing

Over the past four years Maeve has been asked to give day seminars at Sligo IT Architecture Course three times. At Staunton Henderson, we are passionate about helping younger architects realise their potential.

As a Board Member of the Women’s Irish Network Charity in London, in 2018 Maeve was asked to speak about the power of networking along side Angela Brady Past President RIBA, at the Irish Embassy at Grosvenor Square.

While living and working in Cambodia during 2010, Maeve was asked to speak at Nerd Night Pecha Kucha on the research work she was conducting. 300 people attended.

Yale Research In Cambodia

Between 2009 and 2011, Maeve lived and worked in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, volunteering her time at a Yale research project called The Vann Molyvann Research Project, and in private practice.

The project documented the work of Cambodian Architect Molyvann’s work from the 1960’s, during their 10 years of peace post French colonisation and pre Khmer Rouge.

The buildings were passively designed and naturally ventilated. The models and drawings produced are now in a specially built gallery in Phnom Penh and the Yale Archive Library.
